ABOUT THE ARTIST

Bill Ballard has been working with cameras and film since the mid 1970s. A self proclaimed “seriously obsessed amateur,” he learned his way around the darkroom in high school. He continued his photographic work throughout his education at Baldwin College in southern Georgia. Now a professional photographer in Savannah, Georgia, Bill enjoys sailing the southern coastal Atlantic waters with his wife aboard their small cruising yacht, Jo Beth.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Photography—the artistic capture and manipulation of reflected light—both challenges and humbles me. I love how photographs make people laugh, cry or even shake with rage as they communicate an instant of extraordinary poignancy. These two concepts, which lie at the heart of artistic creation, will always stir me to the core.
Working in both film and digital mediums, I find the new possibilities to be more exciting than I had ever anticipated. This fresh and ever-changing medium has spurred a renaissance not unlike that at the turn of the 20th century, when acetate based films and light-sensitive papers replaced plates of glass and sheets of tin.
My vision is that we, as both creators and collectors of photography, have a magnificent future ahead.
